Time Management skills are very important. Are you that person who tends to have difficulty keeping an appointment because you are always late? Always running late to meetings, scheduled events, classes, or simply a lunch with a friend? Not having the best success in time management when you have a list of things to do? Well you aren’t alone, you like many others, even me, need to learn to manage our times well. This is one of those things that is much easily said then done. You tell yourself, okay, “I’m going to watch one episode and then do my homework and go for a jog later,” but end up sitting in front of the T.V for hours and staying up late scrimmaging to finish your homework at one in the morning, and that jog? That when out the window. So to help prevent doing that to yourself, here are some tips on how to manage your time better.
Time Management is important when prioritizing. If you know that a project is due tomorrow, don’t go doing something that isn’t of as importance or is due at a later date. Make sure that you are completing the tasks that are of utter most importance first. If you have a list of things that need to be accomplished on that date, look at what important there are and recreate the list according to that. If you have things such as “watch the American Idol” or “Movies at 6” written on that list and you are on a time restraint, toss those thing out. You have to be ruthless when it comes to prioritizing, watching American Idol isn’t the most demanding task, especially not when you can watch it online whenever you please. So make you have your goals set straight. More time, more broadness in what you do, less time, attack what needs to be done now first.
It appears that procrastination, regardless of your age, is a talent we all possess, some more strongly then others. If you know that you have to finish you homework, then go to a sports practice and have work, don’t sit around doing nothing. Get your homework done. Don’t wait for the time for you to leave to come around. If you have only an hour do the most – time consuming homework first so that way if you don’t finish you know what you have left won’t take you long to complete.
Saying NO is Golden
If you know that you have a long list of things to complete don’t feel obligated to say yes to a friend who asks you to go see a movie with her. If you are one of those people who can’t seem to say no when someone asks you for help, you need to learn to. You can’t be everywhere all the time, sometimes you simply need to focus on what you have in had rather then worry about helping others.
When looking at this in perspective, time management really comes down to how much you are willing to abide by it. There are so many way to help you improve you time management skills but it you aren’t willing to try none of them are worth listing. So try to follow through on the rules you set for yourself, it’s the biggest way of improving.
