Don’t be awkward.
College, aside from the educational aspect, is all about meeting and making new friends that will last you a lifetime. Don’t be afraid to let loose and step out of your comfort zone, if someone approaches you be friendly and try to make conversation. Having reliable and trustworthy friends can be a lifesaver in college; you have to deal with so much they can help decrease you stress. Your friend is always going to be there for you to talk to and share your feeling with.
Get Involved.
This is that one phrase that you have probably been hearing since the first day of high school, only because it is true! College has so much to offer, clubs sports, student body; you are bound to find an activity in which you fit in perfectly. Furthermore, it is a perfect way of meeting people with whom you have common likes. Also, getting involved gives you empty time to fill, rather then sitting in your dorm dreading over the place or having your thoughts go into the negative direction, being involved in a club will help you get out and notice new things.
Communication is key.
Every campus has counselors; they are there to help you with what ever may be bothering you. You should not feel uncomfortable or weird going into their office. Counselors are trained people who can help you go through any difficulty you are facing. If you feel like you do not fit in, can’t make new friends, having trouble with someone they will help you realize those feeling and help you overcome them. They will give you advice that may be the most helpful thing you have heard at all.
Know your Professors.
Your professors probably see hundreds of students’ everyday in one class; you don’t want to be just another face in the crowd. You want to make sure that your professor knows you personally. Being on good terms with your professors can be very beneficial. You should not hesitate when asking them question, just make sure they are reasonable.
Going to college for some is like going from a small-populated town to a huge city. Some people who find the right route exceed in life and some who tend to get lost in the crowd loose their motive. Don’t be that person. Life is only has hard as you make it. As long as you are willing to open up a bit you are going to fit in fine.
