Everyone has that one subject that they completely despise. Not matter how hard they try they can’t get themselves to focus on it. Furthermore, being a single mom and trying to learn a subject they don’t like is even more difficult because you have so many distractions around you and so many things to focus on. You children may be consistently call you for help, you many need to finish office work or make dinner there is always something that pops up when you sit down and try to teach yourself. Well not anymore, try these simple tricks to try helping you some that may seem obvious me need reminding.
To begin with, do not procrastinate. The number one problem is that you put if off for later, you need to convince yourself to just sit down and read all about the subject. Don’t have twenty things opened up around you. Turn your cell phone to silent for a few hours, log off facebook, tumblr, youtube, twitter, any website that may cause you to ignore your work, if possible try to turn off your laptop unless you really need it.
Take breaks. You don’t have to sit down for five straight hours and just read and try to solve problems and answer questions. Now, break doesn’t mean go do something and never come back. It means check you phone for any important messages, take a walk, stretch a little and come right back to doing your work. Train your brain to take these fives minute breaks and start working again, so next time you will.
Listen to music. Many people tend focus more when they are listening to music. This doesn’t mean blast punk rock on full volume, it simply means to listen it on a low volume where you simply hear it in the background. Try listening to some soothing music if you can, it keeps you relaxed and prevents you from psyching yourself out. On the contrary, depending on the person you are lyrical music can be a huge distracton, where instrumental should be a perfect combination for you.
Food is always helpful. Many of the food you may enjoy and come to like may be what help you concentrate. Some things would be berries, chocolate, nuts, oranges. Also, caffeine is a wonderful source to staying alert and on top of things, many people choose not to drink coffee because its “bad” for them, but it’s actually the opposite, coffee is actually good for you so drink away (with a limit of course). Also, may sugary foods are a good way of increasing concentration, that doesn’t mean drown yourself in candy, try a healthier and natural source for the sugar.
Although, these are some ways to help you in your effort to try to learn a new subject but keep in mind that a lot of it requires you to put in the effort. You know that learning a subject you don’t like isn’t quite your priority but you know that its something you need to do, so set your mind to it and get it done with wallowing around complaining.
